St. Agnes Welcomes New Nurse Manager to Intermediate Care Unit
July 2008
St. Agnes Hospital is proud to announce the addition of Carol D. Hiteshew, MS, RN, CNA-BC, to our nurse management team. She is managing our 20-bed Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU).
Accepting medical and surgical cases from our ED, PACU and AICU, the IMCU offers “more patient diversity and variety in the types of care we provide. It creates a challenging environment that keeps the work interesting,” according to Ms. Hiteshew. This is the professional challenge that she has been looking for in her career.
Carol has already set some aggressive immediate goals with recruitment and retention of experienced nurses as well as GNs as a top priority. This is to maintain their phenomenal 1:3 nurse-patient ratio. She is also implementing a campaign to involve every nurse and tech in keeping the unit well organized and maintained “to give recruits a good impression of the unit.” Additionally, Carol feels this will help to continue the feeling of team pride within the unit.
Ms. Hiteshew brings an extensive clinical background from the University of Maryland Medical Center and impressive academic credentials, including a BSN and MSN from the University of Maryland School of Nursing and certification in Nursing Administration.
